Private Childbirth Education Classes
In my private Childbirth Education classes I provide you
with all of the necessary tools and knowledge you need
to have a positive and satisfying childbirth experience- in
the comfort of your own home-when it is convenient for
you.
I use evidence-based information from high quality,
reliable sources like The Cochrane Library to educate
my clients on their many choices. We will cover all of
the basics of Childbirth Education including: nutrition, the
stages of labor, interventions, birth plan preparation,
basic newborn procedures and breastfeeding.
In addition to the basics, a large portion of every class
will focus on relaxation, position changes, comfort
measures and coping techniques pulling from a variety of
methods including, The 3 R’s of Childbirth by Penny
Simkin, Birthing From Within by Pam England and The
Bradley Method of Husband Coached Childbirth, as
well as my experience as a Birth Doula. The
philosophy, concepts and ideas I incorporate come from
recommendations from the World Health Organization
that have been adopted by the ‘new’ Lamaze
International into six care practices as well as Birthing
From Within by Pam England.
I believe in a woman’s innate ability to birth her baby,
and I strive to instill and support this belief in you-my
client. My classes will provide you with everything you
need to make an informed decision about the kind of
birth experience you would like to strive for-and the
tools to get there with confidence.
My classes are designed around the needs of each
individual woman and her partner including learning
style, current knowledge level, concerns and time
availability. I offer classes in the day, evening, and
weekend working with you to accommodate your
schedule. The beauty of private classes is the ability to
customize and flexibility.

I believe that every woman who wants a doula
should have one. Therefore, I offer barter and
reduced fees for those whose only barrier to
having a doula is cost.
M. rests between pushes
while Dad supports her leg,
and her daughter and I praise
her efforts and offer support
and encouraging words.

Doula care
As your doula, I support you and your partner with evidenced
based information, as well as emotional and physical support
before, during, and immediately after childbirth. My
continuous presence, experience with childbirth, extensive
knowledge of physical comfort measures and relaxation
techniques, flexibility, compassion and a team spirit allow me
the ability to be of maximum service at your birth.
My services include:
- Two prenatal visits in your home where we get-to-know
each other and where I fit in within your birth experience.
- Optional third prenatal visit to prepare home and family for
the arrival of a newborn.
- Unlimited phone and email support prenatally.
- Provide referrals to community resources-don’t know
where to go to get your prenatal chiropractic care,
acupuncture or prenatal yoga classes-give me a call.
- 24 hour on-call from 38 weeks to birth-call anytime if you
think you’re in labor.
- Early labor support in your home or meet you at the
hospital.
- Continuous informational, emotional, and physical
support during labor for you and your partner.
- I will provide you with information you request -within
my scope of practice - on the risks, benefits, and
alternatives of any choice you are presented with, so that
you may make a fully informed choice during your birth. I
respect and support my clients’ decisions.
- Your partner’s (or other loved ones) love for you and
knowledge of you and your preferences cannot be
replaced. I do not attempt to do this. I provide an added
support that is complimentary. The emotional support I
offer to you during the birth process is the
encouragement, reassurance, and compassion of a woman
who has birthed four children herself and has attended
numerous births.
- These two sources of support are a wonderful
combination for the laboring mother. I support and
encourage the partner during the birth process in a
variety of ways including (but not limited to) offering
suggestions for supporting the mother and applying
techniques taught in a variety of childbirth classes,
allowing him/her to take a break, go to the bathroom! or
get a bite to eat-all knowing you are well supported during
his/her absence. This support can reduce stress and
anxiety in the partner which allows him/her the ability to
relax and participate fully at his/her own comfort level.
- I offer physical support through effective labor positions
during all stages, relaxation techniques, extensive comfort
measures, visualization, massage, and aromatherapy to
name a few.
- Initial breastfeeding support-I’m there to offer guidance in
support of a good start.
- Weekly phone and email support for 6 weeks postpartum-
non-judgmental and compassionate understanding.
- Photos if requested-during any stage.
- Written birth log.
- One postpartum visit in your home-review your birth log,
offer referrals if needed, etc.
Call me for a FREE in person interview where we may
discuss each of these points in greater depth as well as see if I
am a good fit for you. It’s important that you find the right
doula for you, therefore I suggest you interview at least three
doulas.
